Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes
Ron will reiterate to Town Manager that we have the go -ahead for a bin and he will ask if
the committee can help and find a space. We don't know if discussions are continuing with
CVS.
Ron noted that it will then be our job to alert businesses and get them to use it. Perhaps a
brochure would help advertise this new service.
• New Business
Summer Social - Ron's generous offer to host,
October 24th, to be verified next time.
Potential Fair at RMLD that was mentioned at
much area.
probably a fall social. Tentative Friday
last meeting: details needed - when, how
Idea was solar, but could be more generally renewable, including for example,
geothermal.
Plan and vision are needed. Who to be invited = how much space.
Possibly think about other places in town if we can only get the cafeteria.
Committee Assignment: Before next meeting send Dave any ideas for who might do
displays (e.g. the contractor who installed Ray's geothermal, the solar company who put
panels on the house on High St, Astrum, the new solar company in Wilmington). Tentatively
it would be April 11th, as Earth Day is the 22nd, school vacation week is that week and
Easter Holiday is April 5.
• Cooperation with Schools (Martha Moore) - Joan sent an email about Envirothon, but
we haven't heard anymore.
Ron emailed the teachers we've worked with this week and sent our adaptation
report, offering our presentation or other climate issues that they would want us to
speak to.
• Cooperation with Council on Aging (home heat conservation)
Follow up needed. Gina will check on this. Possibly make information available. Or
bank provide same deal as Winchester. If COA wants to work on this, we're willing to
help. Gina will track down someone on the COA.
Gardening activities
Island adoption? David will call the garden club to see what's available for next year
so that we can consider at the next meeting. Mary (Ray Porter contact) knows native
plants and can make recommendations.
If it's the concept of organic garden tours like Sustainable Belmont hosted, that
would be a different concept.
Other items - Saturday November 1st at Jenks Center in Winchester, Community
Adaptation speakers look good. Also, Saturday December 6th, Lexington at Carrie
Library, all 9:30 to 12.
Ron speaking at Library December 9th on the book "Sixth Extinction" by Elizabeth
Kolbert.
Meeting Adjourned at 8:25 PM
Page 1 2
mi3 -o9 0-
