READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING <br />MINUTES <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />NOVEMBER 30, 1987 <br />Chairman George Shannon called the regular meeting of the Reading School <br />Committee to order at 7:30 p.m. on November 30, 1987, in the Superintend- <br />ent's Conference room at 34 Gould Street. All members were present. <br />Also present were the Superintendent, Robert J. Munnelly, Assistant <br />Superintendents Ronald A. Winslow and Lynn M. Bak, Dr. Mark Piechota, <br />Mr. Paul Guerrette Principal of Killam School, parents,and a reporter <br />from the Chronicle. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 17, 1987 <br />Dr. Munnelly requested the Committee postpone approval of minutes until <br />next meeting on December 7. <br />BILLS AND PAYROLLS <br />No bills or payrolls submitted. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Attorney Fabbri, Assistant District Attorney from the Commonwealth of <br />Massachusetts, conducted a workshop regarding the issue of the Massachu- <br />setts Open Meeting Law and Public Records Law for the members of the <br />School Committee and the audience. <br />The various issues Attorney Fabbri presented were in regards to the <br />processes of: <br />• open meeting <br />• executive session <br />o minutes, their release, timing and accuracy, and <br />• hiring procedures. <br />Much dialogue and discussion took place throughout the two hour session, <br />including clarification of questions and concerns. <br />The workshop was well received by the members of the School Committee <br />and was deemed a beneficial and productive session. <br />SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL'S PROPOSALS <br />As a result of the School Committee's request from the November 17 meeting, <br />additional information regarding certain items of expenditure from the <br />Reading Memorial High School and Killam School Improvement Councils was <br />provided. <br />Principal Dr. Mark Piechota and three representatives, <br />O'Connell, Dorothy Jones and Lee By-J-01-1 frUIIL the SChCCl <br />Council, clarified questions concerning stipends for t <br />• grant searches <br />• publishing the High Flier <br />• developing and processing curricula. <br />members Roc <br />I--- rntiarncn <br />he teachers for <br />
