READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE /BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING <br />JOINT MEETING APRIL 10, 1991 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chairman Stan Nissen called the joint meeting of the School Com- <br />mittee and Board of Selectmen to order in the Central Office Con- <br />ference Room at 7:30 p.m. All members of the School Committee and <br />Board of Selectmen were present. <br />CANDIDATES <br />Chairman Nissen a <br />in the vacancy on <br />the candidates in <br />Cavicchi, Roberta <br />Zenewicz. <br />PT 1+ ("T T nAT <br />nnounced that there are six candidates interested <br />the School Committee. The Committees interviewed <br />alphabetical order; Clifford Allen, Susan <br />D'Antona, George Shannon, Greg Tocco and Marie <br />On the first ballot, George Shannon and Roberta D'Antona each re- <br />ceived four votes, with Susan Cavicchi receiving two votes. The <br />second ballot was a 5 -5 tie between Mr. Shannon and Ms. D'Antona. <br />Discussion continued with School Committee member Matthew Cummings <br />eventually breaking the tie with a vote for former School Commit- <br />tee member George Shannon. <br />A motion to make the vote unanimous by acclamation was not approv- <br />ed, and the last vote taken was 8 in favor of George Shannon and 2 <br />for Roberta D'Antona. <br />Chairman Nissen explained that Mr. Shannon cannot vote on issues <br />until 28 days from the time the position was posted, noting that <br />date will be April 23rd. The committee invited Mr. Shannon to sit <br />in on discussion at the School Committee meeting immediately fol- <br />lowing the joint session. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />At 10:10 p.m. Chairman Nissen adjourned the joint session. <br />Respectfully Submitted <br />Robert J.
