READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS Reading, Massachusetts SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES 7 SEPTEMBER 1993 CALL TO ORDER The School Committee Special Meeting was called to order in the Reading Public Library Meeting Room on September 8, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. by Chair Roberta D'Antona. All members of the School Committee were present as was Superintendent Robert J. Munnelly amd Joan Rys, a field representative of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE OF MEETING Chair Roberta D'Antona welcomed the Committee and introduced Joan Rys. Mrs. D'Antona explained the purpose of the of the meeting; the first portion which was to be self - evaluation and the second half, goal setting. DISCUSSION OF EVALUATION ITEMS Discussion of the Evaluation Items followed with comprehensive ratings concerning School Committee performance given to each category. Ratings are as follows: Routine Functioning Rating High School Committee Improvement Rating High Community Relations Rating High Improving Instruction Rating Medium -Low Educational Policy Development Rating Medium -Low Educational Planning Rating Very High Overall Evaluation Rating High GOAT. TATS The School Committee reviewed goal statements for 1992 - 1993. The Committee was in general agreement that the School Committee addressed goals forcefully with strong actions and several positive results - namely the School Building Program and the Override. The School Committee agreed to prepare draft goals for discussion at the September 13, 1993 meeting. ADJOURNMENT Matthew Cummi was seconded 9:55 p.m. s moved that the meeting be adjourned.
