READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING <br />OPEN HEARING MINUTES <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />FEBRUARY 22, 1993 <br />Chairman Matthew Cummings called the open meeting of the <br />School Committee to order at 7:05 p.m. in the Berger <br />Conference Room at Reading Town Hall. All members of the <br />School Committee were present with the exception of George <br />Shannon. Superintendent Robert J. Munnelly was also present. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />FY 1994 BUDGET <br />Mr. Cummings explained that the School Committee would examine <br />the impact that a possible Proposition 2 1/2 override would <br />have on the fees charged to participants of the school <br />athletic and music programs. He briefed the School Committee <br />and the public on Town Manager's and Selectmen's override <br />concept outlining the proposed override of $2,5000,000: <br />$1,002,274 40.1% (Trash) <br />$1,009,700 40.4% (38K short of level service <br />budget and salaries) <br />$ 204,000 Capital Projects <br />$ 284,000 Municipal Operations <br />-0- <br />Utilizes all of the $2,500,000. Includes operating <br />expenses that have been presented for FY94 and adds <br />in the salary increases. <br />Chair Cummings added that another factor in the overall school <br />budget equation is the state sponsored Education Reform Act, <br />which could return as much as $465,000 to the Town for <br />lowering the levy limit.
