READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE RETREAT <br />LONG RANGE PLANNING RETREAT MAY 14, 1994 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Vice Chair Timothy Twomey called the School Committee Long <br />Range Planning Retreat to order at 8:12 a.m. in the Super- <br />intendent's Conference Room. All members were present with <br />the exception of Roberta D'Antona, who was expected to arrive <br />shortly and George Shannon. Also present were Superintendent <br />Robert J. Munnelly and Assistant Superintendent Dennis <br />Richards. <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS <br />The School Committee discussed what they hoped would be the <br />results of their discussions. Thomas Stohlman summarized some <br />of the comments of the members in attendance when he stated he <br />wanted to identify specific goals, timelines, responsible <br />people, and ways to assess progress. The School Committee <br />listed their nine priorities: <br />Intimidation Free Schools <br />Educational Goals - Curriculum - Professional <br />Development Plan <br />. Funding - Securing Sources <br />Performance Assessment <br />. Policy Review - Book Revision <br />. Communication - Parental Concerns <br />. Advisory Council Plans <br />School Facilities Issues <br />. Contract negotiations - Training for School Committee <br />On Educational Reform <br />They then spent the rest of the morning elaborating education- <br />al goals, funding, performance assessment of staff, school <br />climate, communications and contract negotiations. <br />ADJOURN <br />At 12:20 p.m. Timothy Twome <br />Cummings seconded the motion. <br />Susan Cavicchi <br />Matthew Cummings <br />Roberta D'Antona <br />Thomas Stohlman <br />Timothy Twomey <br />moved to adjourn. Matthew <br />The vote was unanimous. <br />
