READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING <br />RETREAT SESSION MINUTES <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chair Roberta D'Antona called the <br />Meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. All <br />present were Superintendent Rober t <br />Superintendent Dennis Richards. <br />Harvard University Kennedy School <br />sent. <br />ISSUES <br />MAY 6, 1994 <br />Strategic Planning Retreat <br />members were present. Also <br />J. Munnelly and Assistant <br />Dr. Tom Loveless from the <br />of Government was also pre- <br />Dr. Loveless explored a number of different areas with the <br />Committee surrounding the issues of goals, policy versus <br />management and the Educational Reform Act. He asked questions <br />that touched on many topics, such as, the relationship between <br />policy and goals, goal evaluation, short and long term goals, <br />policy governing goal setting, public and staff participation <br />in goal setting, the order of goals, the amount of time spent <br />setting policy, prioritizing goals, academic goals, instruc- <br />tional assessment, curriculum frameworks, advanced placement <br />courses and standardized testing. <br />ADJOURN <br />At 9:45 p.m. Thomas Stohlman moved to adjourn. Timothy Twomey <br />seconded the motion.
