READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS Reading, Massachusetts SCHOOL COMMITTEE MINUTES MEETING WITH THE SELECTMEN MINUTES JUNE 14, 199.5 CALL TO ORDER Chair Matthew Cummings called the meeting of the School Committee and the Board of Selectmen to order at 8:05 p.m. All School Committee members were present. Also present was the Interim Superintendent Dennis Richards. Mr. Cummings presented information to the members of the Board of Selectmen regarding the school department's FY95 shortfall of $250,000. After a series of questions and answers, Mr. Stohlman motioned that the School Committee adpj t a)olicy that reflects the sheet titled Proposed Plans to Address the Problem with the following amendments: (___Department Heads and Principals of schools to check status of appropriations monthly for problems and to notify the Superintendent of any problems and /or negative items The Chairman of the Finance Committee will be notified of major shortfalls 2. School Committee and Finance Committee to be presented quarterly budget projections to the year end. Amended to read- School Committee and Finance Committee and the Town Manager will he presented monthly budget proiections until year end 3. Direct Communication between the Finance and Accounting Departments and the Schools and the Administration and the School Committee will be encouraged change the word encoura�e�, d to implemented . Ms. D'Antona seconded the motion The vote was 6 -0 approving the motion The committee also agreed by consensus that they will participate in a budget planning session that the Town Manager will be scheduling for one day this summer. ADJOURN At 9.55 o.m. Mr. Stohlman moved to adjourn to executive session for the purposes of discussion of union employees and not to return to open session Ms D'Antona seconded the motion The vote was unanimous.
