READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE MINUTES <br />REGULAR SESSION JUNE 1, 1995 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chair Timothy Twomey called the regular session of the School Committee to order at 6:10 p.m. <br />in the Superintendent's Conference Room. All members were present with the exception Robert <br />Spadafora. Also present was Interim Superintendent Dennis Richards. <br />MINUTES <br />Mr. Stohlman moved to accept the May 30, 1995 with the acknowledged change. Mr. Cummings <br />seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. <br />FY95 BUDGET <br />Interim Superintendent Richards reported on a meeting which was held on Wednesday morning, <br />May 21 with the Town Manager to discuss the auditing process used by the Town of Reading. It <br />was agreed to investigate whether or not the process could review materials prepared by the <br />Finance Department and the School Department regarding the $250,000 shortfall for the 1995 <br />fiscal year. Steve Blewitt, Finance Committee representative agreed to contact a representative of <br />KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, Reading's Auditor. <br />Interim Superintendent Richards went on to explain how he has authorized the Town Treasurer <br />and Accountant to hold payment of some bills until after the June 19 Town Meeting. Additionally <br />school administrators will be paid on June 22 if an appropriation is authorized by Town Meeting. <br />If not, the school district will shut down, employees will be furloughed and outstanding bills for <br />FY95 will not be paid. <br />The School Committee worked on revising a memo from Interim Superintendent Richards dated <br />May 30, 1995 regarding school department budgetary procedures. <br />After considerable discussion, the School Committee agreed to postpone completing discussion <br />on the draft until Tuesday, .Tune 6, 6:00 p.m. Administrative Offices. <br />The School Committee postponed discussion of coordination of site visits for Superintendent <br />candidates. <br />ADJOURN <br />Mr. Stohlman moved to adjourn at 7:32 p,m.
