Reading Public Schools <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE PUBLIC HEARING <br />Superintendent Selection Criteria <br />January 24,1995 Minutes <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chair Timothy Twomey called the Public Hearing of the Reading <br />School Committee on the Superintendent Selection Criteria to order in the <br />Reading Memorial High School lecture hall at 7:30p.m. Tim Twomey, <br />Tom Stolhman, Matt Cummings and George Shannon were present. <br />Robin D'Antona was expected to arrive later. Also present was Assistant <br />Superintendent Dennis Richards. <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />The following documents made available to the audience: <br />Superintendent Evaluation Policy, Superintendent Evaluation Form, <br />Superintendent Job Description and the 1994 -1995 School Committee <br />Goals. <br />The chair reminded the audience and cable viewers that they could <br />call School Committee members with their ideas or send written <br />comments on the next superintendent. <br />The following is a summary of the comments made at the meeting. <br />The superintendent should be a person who is: An Educational <br />Leader, Dynamic, Flexible, A Strategist/ Tactician, A Decision Maker, <br />Visionary, Here for the Long Term, Here for the Short Term, A Fiscal <br />Manager, A Communicator, The Best Person, A Bottom Up Leader, <br />Experience with Challenge, Believable and Educationally Proactive. <br />The superintendent should be a person who can: Empower People, <br />Understand K -5 Needs, "Shake Up the Boat ", Ensure Accountability, <br />Identify Resources, Sell the System, Collaborate with Others, Use Fiscal <br />Support Staff, Develop Consensus and Write Grants. <br />
