READING PUBLIC SCHOOLS Reading, Massachusetts School Committee Meeting SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 14, 1997 CALL TO ORDER Chair Susan Cavicchi called the Special Meeting of the School Committee to order in the Joshua Eaton Elementary School Conference Room at 7:00 p.m. All members were present. Also present were Superintendent Dr. Harry K. Harutunian, Liaison to the Building Committee Richard Radville, Parker Principal Dr. Jack Delaney and Architect Vincent Pellegrini. PARKER MIDDLE SCHOOL The Superintendent presented to the School Committee a request for $59,776 to improve the lighting and sound for the Parker Middle School. He indicated that during the design phase there was no money to put aside to upgrade the sound and lighting of the Parker auditorium. The Superintendent indicated at this point the sound system is of very poor quality and as of now the only lighting on stage is a strip of light bulbs going across the center stage. Both Richard Radville and Dr. Jack Delaney reiterated the importance of the School Committee endorsing the expenditure of $59,776. Also presented this evening was a budget reconciliation summary indicating that $1,072,590 were available as of January 9, 1997. A breakdown of the cost of these items was also presented to the Superintendent. Several committee members asked questions relevant to the need. A short discussion took place. Mr. Twomey moved to approve $59,776 for the sight and sound system at Parker Middle School. Ms. D'Antona seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous 6 -0.
