READING SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />REGULAR SESSION April 16, 1998 <br />Chair Twomey called the School Committee to order at 6:35 p.m. in <br />the Career Center at RMHS. Present were School Committee Members <br />Cavicchi, Dahl, Stohlman, Twomey and Williams. Also present were <br />Superintendent Harutunian and Associate Superintendent Richards. <br />Dr. Harutunian notified the Coranittee that Reading will be <br />receiving an additional $131,000 in state aid. Dr. Harutunian <br />distributed to the Committee a memorandum with three options <br />regarding funding the $57,800 for the middle school foreign <br />language program. The Committee held a lengthy discussion <br />regarding the three options as listed by the Superintendent. <br />Ms. Cavicchi moved approval of budget option #3 as recommended by <br />the administration to place the funding for the $58,000 foreign <br />language program within the 20% hold. The vote was 3 -2 Ms <br />Cavicchi, Mr. Twomey and Mr. Dahl voted yes, Mr. Stohlman and Ms <br />Williams voted no. The motion did not carry. <br />Mr. Stohlman moved the funding of the $57,800 for the middle <br />school foreign language program by cutting items from appropriate <br />lines as listed in option #1. Ms. Williams seconded the motion <br />The vote was 4 -1 Mr. Dahl, Mr. Stohlman, Mr. Twomey and Ms <br />Williams voted yes, Ms. Cavicchi voted no. <br />ADJOURN <br />Ms. Cavicchi made a motion to adjourn at 7:20 p.m. Ms Williams <br />seconded the motion. The vote was 5 -0 Ms. Cavicchi, Mr. Dahl, <br />Mr. Stohlman, Mr. Twomey and Ms. Williams. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Harry K. Harutunian, Ph.D. <br />Superintendent of Schools <br />
