r <br />READING SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE /BUILDING COMMITTEE April 13,,1998 <br />Chair Twomey called the School Committee to order at 6:35 p.m. in <br />the Career Center at RMHS. Present were School Committee Members <br />Cavicchi, Dahl, D'Antona, Stohlman and Twomey. Also present were <br />Superintendent Harutunian and Associate Superintendent Richards. <br />Chair Graham called the School Building Committee to order at <br />6:36 p.m. <br />A discussion was held regarding the School Committee's memorandum <br />to the School Building Committee regarding instructions for the <br />architect to be hired by the School Building Committee for the <br />elementary school project. <br />The School Building Committee asked for clarification on the <br />following items: <br />1. The first paragraph states 60,000 square foot school where <br />did that figure come from and the figure for the size of the <br />parking lot? <br />Chair Twomey advised the School Size and Enrollment <br />Committee recommended a 24 classroom school, the figure is <br />taken from SBAB guidelines. The parking lot area should be <br />sufficient for 600 student school. Mr. Stohlman said the <br />report of the Elementary Enrollment Committee actually has a <br />smaller square footage and that the SBC should refer to the <br />actual report for more accurate numbers. <br />Chair Graham advised that he would be asking members of the <br />School Size and Enrollment Committee to attend a School <br />Building Committee meeting to give input. After the <br />information is received from the SSEC, will begin the RFP <br />process. Dr. Harutunian, Chair Graham and the DPW will work <br />together to draft the RFP. <br />2. Clarification requested on the item listed as safety /health <br />issues and student well being. <br />Chair Twomey advised that School Committee wanted <br />traffic /pedestrian safety looked into. Ms. Cavicchi stated <br />also concerned about dust etc. during renovation/ <br />construction. <br />
