Reading Public Schools <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />School Committee Minutes <br />School Highlights April 1, 1998 <br />The meeting began at 7:35 p.m. at the Joshua Eaton Elementary School. All School <br />Committee members were present with the exception of Ms. D'Antona and Ms. Williams. <br />Also present was Superintendent Harry K. Harutunian and from Joshua Eaton Elementary <br />School: Ms. Keri DiNapoli, Grade One Teacher; Ms. Julie Markowitz, Primary Music <br />Teacher and Principal Lisa Pittella. <br />Principal Lisa Pittella welcomed everyone and introduced Ms. DiNapoli's grade one class. <br />She said this year the class has been working on projects about Egypt and Dinosaurs. Ms. <br />Markowitz has also assisted with these. Ms. Pittella said everyone is welcome to join the <br />school committee after the presentation so that they may answer any questions. <br />Ms. DiNapoli thanked everyone for coming this evening. She said the Egypt project was <br />part of an enrichment program that has been an exciting experience for the children and <br />for her. The Dinosaur project was an entire class project. The children learned about <br />different types of dinosaurs. They used reference books to identify dinosaur bones. They <br />put what they learned into a rap song with the help of Ms. Markowitz. <br />Ms. DiNapoli introduced the Room 24 Dino Rap. The grade one class sang a rap song <br />about dinosaurs. After the song Ms. DiNapoli encouraged the students to express <br />something they had learned about the two projects. The students shared what they learned <br />about Egypt and dinosaurs. <br />Principal Pittella said this was an exciting interdisciplinary project. She thanked Ms. <br />DiNapoli and Ms. Markowitz. <br />At 7:45 p.m. there was a five - minute break.
