Date: March 30, 2013 <br />Time: 9:00 a.m. (Retreat) <br />Place: Superintendent's Conference Room <br />School Committee Members Present <br />Karen Janowski <br />Chuck Robinson Arrived at 10:20 am. <br />Hal Croft <br />Rob Spadafora <br />Chris Caruso <br />Call to Order <br />Reading Public Schools <br />Reading, Massachusetts <br />Retreat <br />Staff Members Present <br />John Doherty, Superintendent <br />Mary DeLai, Assistant Superintendent <br />Alison Elmer, Director of Student Services <br />Craig Martin, Coolidge Principal <br />Chairperson Janowski called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. <br />and Mr. Caruso. <br />Mrs. Janowski called the open session meeting back to order at 9:20 a.m. <br />Dr. Doherty reviewed the agenda for the meeting. <br />Superintendent's Goals Review <br />Dr. Doherty reviewed the five step process. He reviewed the steps that have led to the development <br />of his goals for this year. He has identified at least one professional practice and one student <br />learning goal as well as two — four district improvement goals. All goals focus on student/district <br />growth and achievement. <br />The Superintendent provided a midyear status update. Discussion of success and challenges took <br />place and the School Committee asked clarifying questions. The process ends with the Summative <br />Review at the end of the year. <br />Reading Public Schools Vision <br />Dr. Doherty presented the revised Reading Public Schools vision: "To Prepare, Inspire, Engage, and <br />Support the Whole Child to become Innovative Leamers ". <br />He reviewed areas of focus which include School Environments, Teaching and Learning, Teaching <br />and Learning Values, Teacher Schedule, Technology, Assessments, Special education, Supports, <br />Data, Professional Development, Leadership, Community, Extended Learning Opportunities and <br />Facilities. He then reviewed the focus by level. <br />
