It was a very successful evening.
To make the Friends more visible last week and this week, Friends set up a membership table on
the first floor. As a result 5 new Friends were recruited so far.
Assistant Director's Report:
Evergreen — Its implementation was on May 29, 2012. Evergreen is the online catalog that
replaced Millennium, our older electronic catalog. Current system is not a solution for
everything that the old system couldn't do but Evergreen has potential and could accommodate
future changes. Evergreen is an open source Integrated Library System which means that if
additional funding is provided, customization can be made with the developers. In the old
system, Millennium, the only option for updates was when a new version came. There was no
customization flexibility. Staff is still in the learning process. Users of Evergreen found it more
difficult to use than the previous system. Current system has more flexibility in terms of users'
control. Users can: change passwords, usernames, update email addresses, opt for different
types of notification, create lists and email records as well.
Ebooks circulation —there a more than 100% increase in ebook circulation. This is due to several
factors, one is that there is a much larger selection of titles, two is that there are more different
formats offered this year than a year ago at the same time, thirdly, we have seen that a lot of
people received eReader devices during the holiday season. There was a significant increase of
users who brought their digital device to the library to learn how to download eBooks. In the
spring our reference librarians provided several drop -in sessions for iPad, Nook, and Kindle for
the public.
Summer Reading Program — as of this morning there were over 400 kids that signed up for the
Children's Summer Reading Program — Castle Quest - -which started on Friday, June 15, 2012.
