Meeting Minutes
October 12, 2011
Reading Cities of Climate Protection Advisory Committee
7:05 Meeting was called to order.
Motion to accept the meeting minutes was made, seconded and passed.
7:10 Meeting agenda was reviewed.
An update on the Reading /Stoneham corridor work was added to the end of the agenda.
7:12 Gina summarized her discussion with Bob LeLasheur about hosting our committee website on
the Town Server. Peter H agreed to join a meeting with Bob to discuss the hosting of the
website. One possibility is to put our material up on Facebook. Tony will look at what can be
posted (pictures & documents) on Facebook.
7:20 Procurement of the plaque for tree donations is pending on the award of the grant. Ron
provided an example plaque from Reading Trophy that would cost under $1000. Joan will
forward the recognition of the receipt of the submission of the grant application to Camille and
Peter.
7:30 Recycling update. Dave spoke with JRM about putting up to 3 eight -yard container for mixed
paper.'Small business could use these for drop -off. Michele check with the town (Mike) on
whether the 3 containers could be in municipal if this is a town /committee activity.
Confirmation to be made through Peter and /or the DPU. We then need to approach the
business to get their participation and encourage their use of the bins. During the winter, we
can promote this to the business community and Reading & North Reading Chamber of
Commerce. Michele emailed Peter and will follow -up later in the week. Dave will get a photo of
the container and flyer or sample material to promote this recycling project.
7:45 Green Business Award: Finding a business that wants to apply for this award. RMLD (Joe) said
they did not know if he could recommend a company willing to do this. Joe could us as an option
if a business asked about this. Laurie Ann will ask Jarrod and Joe if there is a small business in
Reading that recently did significant electrical upgrades. Combining the promotion of the Green
Business award with the promotion of the recycling bin could be a way to promote both
activities. Promotion of participation could be made through the newspaper (Green Sense),
Chamber of Commerce, and T own Day Events. Begin with businessed that are already doing
something would be a good way to kickoff the program. Possible promotion to business through
RMLD bills to business clients.
8:10 Mass DCR Training for Town Tree wardens. Training program open to citizens and resources. The
training is in Harvard, MA, on Oct 28 th and 29th. The cost is $55.
