Meeting Minutes
November 9, 2011
Reading Cities of Climate Protection Advisory Committee
7:05 Meeting was called to order.
Members: Ron, Ray, Joan and Dave. Associate Member: Laurie Ann
Guest: Virginia
Minutes from the previous meeting were not distributed for review or approval.
Next meeting Tuesday Nov 22 due to potential conflict with Thanksgiving Eve.
7:10 Committee Website: The basic issue is that the committee's current website is
based on html and the Town's website is based on Microsoft software. Ron was to
talk with Tracy to see if we can get the original documents (before they were
converted to html) to load to the website. We can create branches for residents,
businesses and Green Sense articles. Ron stated that the priority is to begin
loading current documents to the site.
7:30 Review Cambridge's Green Business Program: Attachments about Cambridge's
Green Business Program were distributed for review. While the program is very
inclusive, the question is who would do the compliance visits. It has been difficult
to communicate with the Reading North Reading Chamber of Commerce. Ron
was going to contact Bill Crowley (Past President of the Chamber) to see if we
could reopen communication. A subcommittee of Ron, Joan and Laurie Ann was
formed to may a draft Green Business Plan based in part on the Cambridge Plan.
7:45 Memorial Tree Program: The grant for the memorial tree program (if approve)
would cost $300 per tree, which is comparable to the curb -side tree planting
program run by the town. Michele was to write up a Roots for the Future
summary for review by Peter, Camille and Bob Keating (tree warden).
8:00 Business paper recycling: Michell to coordinate a meeting with Peter (Town
Manager) on the possible locations of paper bins in Town. Dave will email Tom
Flannigan of JRM for a picture of the bins.
8:15 Other: Ray presented a summary of the ground source heat pump (GSHP) system
that he will be installing at his house as part of the new addition.
